It’s no secret that my relationship with the Democratic Party has been rocky. I flirted with the Greens for a while before Howard Dean won me over to voting Democrat, and I’ve never been what you would call committed.
But Nancy Pelosi I always loved. Sure, she was more conservative than me, but she had my back—I thought. Stupak-Pitts tested our relationship, but I thought it wasn’t fair to blame her for that, and I forgave and stood up for her when Heath Shuler and his Blue Dog buddies tried to supplant her in the Party leadership.
Today, though, she’s broken my heart. And since it’s Valentine’s Day, I’m publicly breaking up with the DCCC. Because, you see, I’ve caught them cheating on me.
The letter above came this weekend.
It told me that Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC are asking for money for a “women’s health rapid response fund”. Which is great. Except “women’s* health” is only worth $100,000 to the DCCC, and antichoice Democrats were worth $3.4 million.
The DCCC isn’t getting a dime from me until it breaks up with the antichoice Democrats like Shuler, Mark Critz, and Joe Donnelly. They’ve got some explaining to do.
So I’m telling them, on Twitter. I’m asking the @dccc, and asking @NancyPelosi too, why they care more about electing antichoice Democrats than people like me.
I’m using the hashtag #itsoverdccc.
